U.S. 101/OR6 Traffic Improvement Project in Tillamook This project improves traffic operations and performance, and increases safety on U.S. 101 and OR 6 through downtown Tillamook and across Hoquarton Slough. The project will lengthen the U.S. 101 couplet to the Hoquarton Slough by extending Pacific Avenue north beyond 1st Street and replacing the existing slough bridge with a new four-lane bridge. The new bridge will be up to 5 feet higher than the existing bridge. The project will also widen the travel lanes on Main and Pacific Avenues from 1st to 4th Streets. Turn lanes will be added at key intersections through town. The project also improves the Hoquarton Interpretive Area, and adds gateway elements and downtown beautification. Construction will be occurring adjacent to the highway. Expect shoulder closures and night time work. Look for construction vehicles entering and leaving the highway. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.

Comments: All work complete except planting and seeding. Most work will be on the shoulder. Expect shoulder work and minor delays. This project will add a left turn lane on US101 at NE Devil's Lake Road. It will also create a wider shoulders and improve sight distance, in an effort to reduce crashes. Seeding and planting will be in September 2016.

Details: US101 MP 141.67 (Yaquina Bay Bridge - Newport) Effective March 1, 2013, the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport is restricted to 20,000 lbs. single axle, 34,000 lbs. tandem axle - 105,500 lbs. GVW, Weight Table 2 for divisible loads; 21,500 lbs. single axle, 43,000 lbs. tandem axle - 98,000 lbs. GVW, Weight Table 3 for non-divisible loads. Non-divisible loads exceeding these weights (up to Weight Table 5) may cross the bridge if they stop traffic/straddle the centerline and are the only vehicle on the bridge when crossing. Certified flaggers are required to stop both northbound and southbound traffic. The rolling stop method is not allowed.

US101(Bus.): Old Youngs Bay & Lewis & Clark River Bridges (Warrenton - Astoria Highway, mile post 4.78 and 6.89) This project consists of performing bridge rehabilitation work at both the Old Youngs Bay and Lewis & Clark River Bridges along US101(Bus.). The scheduled work at the Lewis & Clark River Bridge includes coating the bridge steel underneath the bridge deck. Flaggers will control single lane traffic at the Lewis & Clark River Bridge during construction when work is occurring as required. Minor delays should be expected when single lane closures are occurring and the public is reminded to drive through the area with caution. Oregon State Police will be enforcing the speed limit through the work zone area. The scheduled work at the Old Youngs Bay Bridge includes rehabilitation of the electrical and mechanical systems along with the substructure of the bridge. In addition, coating of the bridge steel underneath the bride deck will be occurring. Flaggers will control single lane traffic at the Old Youngs Bay Bridge during construction when work is occurring as required. Minor delays should be expected when single lane closures are occurring and the public is reminded to drive through the area with caution. Between April 11 and August 5, the Old Youngs Bay Bridge will be closed to all traffic, including bicycles and pedestrians, intermittently on some nights to allow for replacement of structural supports underneath the bridge. The closures will be from 6:00 PM until 6:00 AM. The next scheduled night closure is on Monday, July 25th. Closures will not be occurring on Friday or Saturday nights. The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2017.
