Lane closures on Schmeer Road for bridge work. A contractor is working on a project to widen I-5 between Victory Boulevard and Lombard Street. This 1.2-mile project includes adding a third lane to southbound I-5, constructing a new southbound entrance ramp bridge at Columbia Boulevard, widening bridges and adding shoulders to northbound I-5. Lane closures on I-5 will only take place during nighttime hours, generally from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The contractor plans to continue pile driving and electrical work around the Columbia Slough Bridge area and on Schmeer Road Monday, July 21, through Saturday, July 26. Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations on Schmeer Road will be required for this work during daytime hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. South of the Columbia Slough, the contractor plans rebar installation, bent pouring and shaft drilling.
Other work scheduled during the week includes embankment and water quality swale construction on the I-5 Columbia Boulevard on- and off-ramps. This work will require intermittent lane closures and flagging operations on the Columbia Boulevard southbound on-ramp during daytime hours. The contractor plans to work Tuesday night, July 22, on the Columbia Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-5. Motorists should expect flagging operations and short delays during this work, which will take place from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
There are no nighttime lane closures currently scheduled on I-5 during the week. If lane closures are required, they will take place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Please note that work zone speed limits will be enforced by enhanced police traffic patrols in the area.

Right shoulder closures will take place for equipment installation on both directions of I-84 in the project area. Due to TriMet's light rail construction along I-205, the multi-use path is closed to thru traffic between SE Caruthers Street, just north of SE Division Street, and SE Sunnyside Road adjacent to Clackamas Town Center. The path is expected to reopen, with improvements, early in 2009.

Pile driving for the new southbound Highway 99E viaduct (MLK Jr. Boulevard) structure will require the closure of Division Place under the viaduct Monday, July 21, to Friday, July 25. Traffic will be detoured to Caruthers Street during the Division Place closure.
The contractor has closed the ramp connecting westbound Division Street to northbound Highway 99E (Grand Avenue). This ramp is scheduled to be closed until 2010 to allow crews to remove the existing northbound viaduct and build a new structure. During the ramp closure, motorists will be directed to take Division Street to northbound 7th Avenue to westbound Clay Street to northbound Highway 99E (Grand Avenue).
Please be alert to enhanced police traffic patrols in the work area.

The contractor will continue with signal installation work at River Road and Highway 99E during daytime work hours. This work will mainly take place off the roadway or on the shoulder. However, there will be occasional right lane closures on Highway 99E for this work.
