US101B, 2 miles West of Astoria MP 5; Closure with Detour
The Lewis and Clark River Bridge will be closed starting December 1, 2014; a detour will be in place. Use an alternate route., The Lewis & Clark River Bridge is scheduled to be closed to facilitate construction activities starting December 1, 2014. This closure is anticipated to last until August 1, 2015. A detour route will be designated with signing during the length of the closure. The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2017.

Comments: Construction is planned during 2015 with the final paving of the tunnel approaches scheduled for 2016. During construction, Phase 2 will result in a limited number of complete nighttime highway closures. A single lane of travel, controlled by flaggers and pilot cars, will be in effect at all other times, 24 hours per day. There will be NO 24-hour, complete highway closures. Check the project website www.58tunnel.org and www.Tripcheck.com for project information and closure information. Project Summary: This project will complete construction of two half viaducts and other remaining items from the original project, along with newly added items. Built in 1939, the tunnel needs serious repair and the adjacent west half viaduct and the three east viaducts are failing and need to be replaced. This project will complete an earlier project, originally designed to lower the tunnel floor, repair the tunnel liner, and rebuild four half viaducts. The original project was partially completed in 2012 and 2013.

Throughout the duration of the project, every 120 days there will be a 10-day period when no restrictions will be in place. Contact the Over-Dimension Permit Unit for specific dates. Comments: Expect intermittent lane closures, with flaggers for traffic control, on the McCullough Bridge. Use caution and expect some minor delays, The contractor will begin moving the work enclosure on the N. half of bridge during the first week in February. Both sidewalks on the bridge are now open. Pedestrians are advised to use caution. This project is expected to take 5 years. Crews will be working on the arches, applying a non-corrosive surface to them. This is the same work that has just been completed for the South end of the Bridge. Due to construction activity and safety concerns, the access road at the NE corner of the bridge is restricted. Only ODOT workers and contractors are permitted in this area. Please do not drive or park on the access road.
