I-5, 2 miles South of I-405 South Interchange

Incident #:90811

Informational only
Construction Work

Lanes Affected: (Southbound) Median , All Lanes , Shoulder (Northbound) Median , All Lanes , Shoulder
Comments: Expect trucks entering the shoulder on I-5 southbound near the SW Iowa Street Viaduct in Portland. A contractor is working on a project to replace a viaduct on I-5 that crosses a ravine at SW Iowa Street (milepost 298) just north of Terwilliger Boulevard (exit 297) and just south of Corbett Avenue (exit 298). The project includes building a temporary detour bridge on the west side of I-5. The hiking trail that crosses under I-5 connecting Terwilliger Boulevard to Corbett Street will be closed during this project. During the week of Tuesday, Sept. 7, through Friday, Sept. 10, the contractor will work on drainage and retaining walls. This work will require trucks entering and exiting the right shoulder of I-5 south at the south end of the project during daytime work hours. Please use caution in the area. The contractor will perform electrical work on the I-5 northbound Corbett Avenue off-ramp (exit 298). This work will require daytime shoulder and lane closures on the off-ramp. Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, to 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, the contractor will close the right and center lanes of I-5 southbound in the project area. During the lane closures, the contractor will bring equipment into the work area. There also may be intermittent, short-term lane closures on northbound Barbur Boulevard for equipment unloading. This work will take place during daytime work hours. The speed limit on I-5 will be reduced to 50 mph in the work area. This speed reduction is in effect 24 hours a day and will remain in place for the duration of the project. Please be alert to enhanced police traffic patrols in the work area. For more information:

Estimated delay under 20 minutes
Construction Work
Off Ramp

Lanes Affected: (Northbound) Median , All Lanes , Shoulder
Comments: One lane connects Highway 217 northbound to US 26 eastbound. Look for nighttime lane closures on the highway. A contractor is working on a project to add a third through-lane to Highway 217 northbound between Oregon Highway 8 (Tualatin-Valley Highway) and U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway). This project also includes building retaining walls and improving drainage on the highway, lengthening the Wilshire St. overpass, and paving and striping the project area and the Highway 217/U.S. 26 interchange ramps. Lane closures on Highway 217 will only take place between 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Currently, only one lane connects Highway 217 northbound to U.S. 26 eastbound. Motorists must use the right lane to travel to U.S. 26 eastbound. Motorists traveling in the center lane of Highway 217 northbound will not be able to access U.S. 26 eastbound. The center lane of Highway 217 northbound will now only continue north to Barnes Road and will not connect to U.S. 26 eastbound. These new lane configurations will be in place for the duration of the project. During the week of Tuesday, Sept. 7, through Friday, Sept. 10, the contractor will work on installing new drainage and constructing the retaining wall near the new Wilshire Street and Walker Road overpasses and the Wilshire Street off-ramp. The contractor is continuing to build the retaining walls along Highway 217 between the Walker Road on-ramp and U.S. 26 and will begin paving a new section of roadway near Walker Road. This will consist of daytime work behind barriers. In preparation for the widening of the U.S. 26 eastbound off-ramp, the contractor narrowed the SW Park Way on-ramp to U.S. 26 eastbound. Although the ramp is narrow, it will remain open. The contractor is working to lengthen the Wilshire Street overpass. During the Wilshire Street overpass work, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction on Wilshire Street. Please be aware that work zone speed limits are enforced by enhanced police traffic patrols in the area. Fines will double in this construction zone. For more information:
